Parts bin maker

A tray with drop-in inserts, for 3D printing. Mix inserts of different lengths in the same tray, and stack the trays: each one sits in the rim of the one below. Set it up here, check the preview, then download a 3MF or STL file for your slicer (Bambu Studio, PrusaSlicer, Orca, Cura).

Tray

How many insert spaces the tray holds, end to end.

Outside sizes.

The rim adds 1 mm on top, and is what the tray above sits in.

Inserts

Fit and finish

The gap each side of an insert. If inserts print too tight to drop in, make it bigger (0.25 or 0.3); if they rattle, smaller.

A scoop in the front wall at each slot, to lift an insert out.

A 1 mm lip round the top, with a bevel under each tray to match, so trays stack and don’t slide.

File type

Printing it

  • Every part is flat side down, ready to slice. In a 3MF each part is its own object, laid out on the plate; print them as they are.
  • The parts need no supports. PLA or PETG, 0.2 mm layers, is a good start.
  • Print one insert first to check the fit, and change the Clearance if you need to.
